The White House is launching “Trump TV” on Monday night, just days after President Donald Trump announced a ban of CNN, MSNOW and Politico from the White House.
The news of the launch was shared on the official White House social media account, with the following description: “Streaming 24/7. Live at 7PM.”
Earlier in the day, the White House teased multiple clips from the account ranging from an old TV set that said “Something’s coming. Stay tuned” to what appears to be an AI-generated video of a satellite truck driving into the White House gates.
According to the White House website’s livestream page, “Trump TV: The Essentials Station” came with the following description:
Watch the Trump Administration’s biggest moments all in one place. Top videos, major remarks, and must-see highlights streaming 24/7 and updated in real time. Stay informed and stay up to date!”
On Monday, CNN, MSNOW and Politico filed a federal lawsuit against the White House in response to the ban, asking a Washington court to restore the outlets’ White House credentials and block enforcement of the ban while the case proceeds.
The news organizations argue the action violates the First Amendment by punishing them for coverage Trump dislikes, as well as their Fifth Amendment due-process rights.
“This ban could not be a more direct assault on the First Amendment,” the outlets said in their legal filing.
In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump defended his decision, calling “Fake News” a “threat to democracy” after they filed a federal lawsuit seeking to restore their access. Trump also criticized the judge assigned to the case, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly.
He argued that the White House should not be required to give access to outlets he said publish false or defamatory reports based on unnamed sources.
“Why should I have to give ‘access’ to such people?” Trump wrote, calling the Oval Office “the most important Office anywhere in the World” and saying it should be treated with “Decorum, Respect, and Dignity.”
Also on Monday, major television networks stood with CNN after the Trump administration blocked the network from its scheduled White House pool duties in a move that left some of President Donald Trump’s events without shared TV coverage.
ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC said they would not send a replacement crew for CNN. In a rare joint statement, the networks said, “The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting.”
